Locality Just south of Whitney Point, 7 miles
north of Gastie Creek, about 17 miles
north of Binghamton.

and embankments in coarse loose soil *
Date August 18, 1976	Alt.	m
ColL F. R. Fosberg	No* 56272
Remarks Erect, branching above; heads bright
deep yellow.
* This species was observed to be abundant
across western New York from west of Roch-
ester to Syracuse and south to near
where this collection was made. Then on
southward to Scranton and east to Hunter-
don Co,, New Jersey, it was not seen,
though suitable habitats were plentiful. ,
The colony from which this collection was
made showed no evidence of rhizomes, Its
non-cordate-based lower leaves, glandular
peduncles, and non-glandular involucres
make it hard to place in either var.
arvensis or var. glabrescens Guenth,
