    Hypochaeris radicata L.

A few day8 ago I noticed an unfamiliar weed of the
Cichoriaoeae here on the capitol lawn. There is only one
plant, and I don’t want to exterminate it by sending the
whole thing to yon, but I will enclose a sprig of it. It
grows about a foot high, and the le^r^lSri ^ffjfcsin a
rosette at the base, pinnately looted?	stiff
hairs like some species of Hleraclum.	something
that is oommon in the Horth or West, but I can't locate it
in your southern flora. It may be ,an accidental introduc-
tion with grass seed, that does not mean anything, but I
am curious to know what it is. The "flowers" are about an
inch in diameter, and open in the morning.
