PLANTS OF PENNSYLVANIA, USA Spiraea iaponica L.f. Rosaceae Det.: S. R. Hill, (ILLS) 2001 CLINTON COUNTY 41° 3.016’ N. Lat. 77° 9.111’ W. Long. Rest Area, Clinton County Site number 33, Route I-80-east, 0.6 mile west of Union County line, about 3.5 miles northeast of Eastville. 5.1 miles west of Mile Run Road exit. Vicinity of Bald Eagle State Forest. Elevation about 1430 feet. Appalachian Mountains. Gneissic rock ridge, slopes with seeps, humus-rich peaty soil. Disturbed marsh at base of seepage slope, with Sphagnum sp. (moss), Juncus effusus, Carex spp., Dryopteris spp., Osmunda spp., Glyceria melicaria, bordered by mesic forest, with Tsuga canadensis, Nyssa sylvatica, Ilex montana, Rhododendron maximum, Quercus rubra, Betula allegheniensis, Kalmia latifolia. Flowers dark pink, leaves pale glaucous beneath, dark green above; occasional shrub 0.5 meter tall; mostly along rocky stream in partial Steven R. Hill 33918 5 July 2001 02910106
