Ada Hayden Herbarium Iowa State University Plants of Iowa Scleria verticillata Muhl. ex. Willd. Grundy Co.: Fairfield Township T89N R15W Sec 5 N2 SE4 NW4NE4 Site is located approximately 4 miles ENE of Stout. A good quality, less than 0.5 acre fen on a W-facing slope in a pasture. Fen is less than 0.1 mile S of a paved county road. Soil here is Palms muck, 1-3% slopes (221), a Terric Medisaprist. Fen is in the Cedar River watershed and on the Iowan Surface. 20,000+ ramets in fruit, growing in saturated muck on the E and N ends of the fen. S. verticillata was less dense in areas where Carex spp. were common. Tufa was present at the surface in areas with S. verticillata. With Carex sp., Cyperus rivularis, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Lysimachia quadriflora and Pamassia glauca. Mark J. Leoschke 999 9 September 1989 02903735
