Fogle Lake Wildlife Management Area, owned by the Iowa Department of
Natural Resources, is about 1 mile north/northwest of Diagonal. An
approximately 0.25 acre, east-facing mesic prairie occurs just east of the
fenced and mowed Keller Cemetery (the prairie was once part of the
cemetery). The soil here is Shelby clay loam, 9 to 14 percent slopes,
moderately eroded (24D2), a Typic Argiudoll. The prairie is on the Southern
Iowa Drift Plain.
Scleria trialomerata is infrequent in the prairie and has green fruits. It is
associated with Andropoaon aerardii. Apocvnum cannibinum. Helianthus
riaidus. Lespedeza capitata. Pastinaca sativa. Schizachvrium scoparium and
Tradescantia ohiensis.
