    Helianthus tuberosus L.

Large, solid colony 15 x 15 m., between cornfield and small
creek. To 2.3 m. tall; stems scabrous to the base. Very few
mid-stem leaves still present, all opposite below alternate ones
in the branching for the inflorescence. Rays bright yellow; disc
slightly darker yellow. No tubers noted when plants pulled up.
