Along trail in Bronx River Reservation entering at Bronx River
Parkway in Scarsdale to Tucahoe along the Bronx River ca. 40°58’N,
ca. 73°48’W. Associated with Acer, Aesculus, Ornithogalum, Alliaria,
Pinus and Tsuga canadensis.
Erect herb ca. 1.5 m tall, entire plant spiny with straight thorns
including on the leaf main vein underside. Leaves compound,
trifoliate. Fruits borne terminally, much branched. Fruits enclosed in
hairy calyx, very hairy with sticky ends. Calyx open showing a bright
red aggregate fruit.
Use(s): Fruits eaten.
