ROSACEAE Subshrubs forming dense clumps, stems arching up to 18in, occasionally creeping with age. In a partly sunny opening in a young 2nd-growth wooded thicket, in moist sandy soil (an old sand pit). Growing with Acer rubrum, Anthoxanthum sp., Baptisia tinctoria, Betula populifolia, Bromus inermis (rare), Carexpensylvanica, Celastrus orbiculatus, Cerastium sp., Clethra alnifolia, Comptonia peregrina, Dactylis glomerata, Danthonia spicata, Elytrigia repens, Fragaria virginica, Gaultheriaprocumbens, Helianthemum sp., Hieracium piloselloides, H. gronovii, Hypericum perforatum, Juncus tenuis, Lechea sp., Lespedeza capitata, Linaria canadensis, Lysimachia quadrifolia, Maianthemum canadense, Parthenocissus sp., Phleum pratense, Pinus strobus, Poa nemoralis, Polytrichum commune (?), Populus grandidentata, Potentilla argentea, P. simplex (?), Prunus pensylvanica, P. serotina, Pteridium aquilinum, Quercus alba, Q. coccinea, Q. velutina, Rhamnus frangula, Rubus flagellaris, R. hispidus, R. setosus, Rumex acetosella, Solidago juncea (?), S. nemoralis, S. puberula, S. rugosa, Stellaria sp., Tradescantia sp., Vaccinium angustifolium, & Viola primulifolia (rare).
