The New York Botanical Garden Plants of COLORADO Grindelia squarrosa (Pursh) Dunal var. serrulata (Rydb.) Steyerm. CO. Fremont Co.: 0.4 mi E of Coaldale, along US 50, at jct with field access road. Plants common in loose, rocky soil along hwy shoulder, field access road, and in adjacent pasture area. 1.5-2.0 ft. tall. Multiple stems from the base. Most well past flowering. Apparently biennials, none found forming new rosettes on flowering plants. Flowers being visited by bees, beatles, and ants. Growing and apparently hybridizing (Wetter 566B) with the discoid G. aphanactis Rydb. (Wetter 556A). Elev. 6600-6800 ft. Mark Allen Wetter 556C 13 Sep 1979 02877415
