var. havardii (Steyerm.) Wetter
NM: Eddy Co. In Carlsbad, along US
62/180/285 (S. Canal St., 1100 block), near
jet with S. Canyon St., in rocky, limestone
wash in middle of Carlsbad. Next to Gibson's
Pharmacy.
Very common along banks and throughout rocky
bed of wash. 1.5-3.3 ft. tall. Variable,
some with only 1 stem, others with multiple
stems from a woody caudex. Those with only l
flowering stem apparently forming new
rosette. In full flower.
Growing intermixed, in bed of wash, with G.
aphanactis Rydb. (Wetter 1017). Wetter ioi6
is the predominant taxon at this location.
NO hybrids found.
This is the same population as that collected
on 11 Aug 1980 as Wetter 693.
