249. Gymnosporangium Bermudianum, (Farl.) Earle. iEcidium. Aecidium Bermudianum, Farl. On leaves and twigs of <Red Cedar, Juniperus Virginiana. Ocean Springs, Miss., Nov. 1892. Coll. F. S. Earle. I. iEcidial stage: A true Roestelia developing in the fall on small globose or somewhat irregular galls or dis- tortions on leaves or small twigs (of Juniperus Virgini- ana). Peridium long exsertcd, fragile; margin laciniate or fimbriate, not recurved; cells broadly oval, easily separable, cell-wall conspicuously ribbed. Spores small 17.5 to 19.5 by 19.5 to 27 micromillimeters, globose or polygonal, apparently smooth. See also Farl. Bot. Gaz. 12 : 206 d; S. 1887. III. Teleutosporic stage following the iEcidial stage on the same galls in spring Sporiferous masses usually few, short and inconspicuous. Spores 2-celled, irregular- ly orbicular, oval, oblong or double- conical, resembling those of G. macropus, 18.5 to 29 by 29 to 55 micromilli- meters. Promycelium and sporidia unknown. ) >88 03011195
