Froehlich Farm Preserve 32 m northwest of the Long Island Railroad track. 40°50'16.75"N, 73°25'54.37"W; 56 m elevation. Tree to 7.6 m. Flowers malodorous; petals white, anthers purple-black to rose-red. Very twiggy with thom-like branches. New leaves rolled with brown hairs along the veins. 1 of 2 trees. Growing in a brushy 21 year old old-field with Juniperus virginiana, Lonicera japonica, Alliaria petiolata, Geum, Malus and Prunus serotina. Matthew C. Pace 399 26 April 2009 02854199
