Old field with a few small planted Juglans nigra, the brush
cut with a brush hog, on narrow ridge top, surrounded by
deciduous forest on slopes.
Tree 9 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter; lower trunk with flaky
dark bark like P. ser—tina, but note that the abaxial side of
the leaf does not have a fringe of hairs along the lower part
of the midrib. Small twigs copious; buds only.
