The New York Botanical Garden Plants of U.S.A. Prunus sargentii Rehder det. M. Nee, 1988 New York, Bronx Co., Bronx, at the New York Botanical Garden, by the Science and Watson Buildings. Cultivated small ornamental tree, 5 m. tall, 20 cm. in diameter, with ascending branches; bark coppery brown, with prominent lenticels. Voucher for wood specimen, MADv 46252. Same tree as 36721-a collected in flower on 21 April 1988. Fruit ascending, began to mature in last few days and every year at- tracting flocks of cedar waxwings (Bombycella cedrorum) which feed on them. Immature fruit green, becoming flushed with red, becoming darker, finally deep wine red, unpleasantly bitter. botanical garden 02850947 Coll. M. Nee 36721-b. 30 May 1988. 02850947
