  • Description

    this is the white "balloui." Pileus 4-9.5 cm broad, convex to plano-convex to irregular in outline, dry white at first, then tan to very pale brown, finely matted subtomentose. Flesh white, slowly pale tan, with mildly pleasant odor and taste. Tubes shallow adnate to adnexed, white to nearly pale pinkish at first, then pale yellowish white with a hint of dull pale 4A3, staining brown. Stipe equal and tapered to base, white with dense tomentum that breaks up with age to a fine dense granular appearance, 3-5 cm long, 2-3 cm broad, with interior solid, whitish, changing to pinkish tan, with base assuming some pale yellow with age. Spores subglobose to nearly ovoid, smooth; hymenial cystidia abundant (pseudocystidia).
