The New York Botanical Garden Plants of U.S.A. Rosaceae Prunus americana Marsh, det. M. Nee, 1994 Richland Co., 3 miles SE of Richland Center. T 10 N; R 1 E; SE^SEi sect. 26. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw 47997. Small colony of old shrubs, with Ulmus americana, Acer negundo, which invaded an active gully in hillside field ca. 30 years ago, now healed. Stems to 4 m tall, 20 cm diam., probably most rotting in the center but the plants healthy; a bark blackish; thorns very stiff. In full bloom; flowers musty fragrant; hypanthium reddish; sepals green; petals white, 8 x 6.5 mm; filaments white; anthers yellow, then darker; style pale yellow-green. Coll.: M.
