Dear Mr* Hydberg:
Can you identify for me without trouble the enclosed fruit» of a
Potentilla, which I collected in August, 1896, in sandy pi****, by the
roadside near Whitmore Lake, in Yfc&tenaw County, Michigan, *feere it
was quite a weed? The plant resembles P. argent»» slightly in ap-
pearance , but i8 not that «pecl*s, aa you will see. Prof. c. P.
Wheeler, to whom X referred the plant, thought it waft »one European
species not heretofore reported In this country* He told m» at the
time what he thought it to be; but I have forgotten. If there Is
any difficulty in identifying this iftp*rfeet specimen» I can send
you a complete plant from my herbarium.
Very truly your®,
