Long-recovering, prairie-like, old fields surrounded by
thickets, the Malus at edge of woody encroachment
with small Quercus ellipsoidalis trees, Rubus
occidentalis, Solidago rigida, Zanthoxylum
americanum, and Iris Ivs. (long-persistent after cult.).
Spreading from cult., the main colony 200 ft. N of a
long-abandoned farm house. Three relatively large
individuals a little farther E, forming a second colony,
and one isolated individual on the RR. right-of-way
some little distance to the N.
Local; colony of 14 or 15 arborescent shrubs from 15
cm (non-flowering, at edges of colony) to 8--12 ft. tall
& 5 cm DBH.; frts. mostly yellowish-red, bright cherry-
red when fully mature. At first big prairie openings S
of Thiboudeau Rd.
