  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced 5 km. south of the approximate geographic center of the village of the Araweté Indian Reserve along Igarapé Ipixuna in Pará, BR. Referred to map provided by "Terra Indígena Araweté Igarapé Ipixuna" (http://dc342.4shared.com/doc/SRP8LpSX/preview_html_m3b1a466a.png) for precise location of Igarapé Ipixuna, a tributary of Rio Xingu. Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located the approximate location of Araweté Indian Reserve, which is nearby the mouth of Igarapé Ipixuna (where Igarapé Ipixuna branches off from Rio Xingu) in Altamira, PA. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the Araweté village. Because the Araweté Reserve does not have precise defined spatial boundaries, used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure from the selected coordinates to the approximate northern border of the Reserve according to the reference map - to Igarapé Piranhaquara; used this distance as linear extent. Input coordinates, offset direction (S), offset distance (5000 m.), linear extent (48397.9 m.), measurement error (.1 m.), and distance precision (100 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the offset coordinates and uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: Offset at a heading).
