RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN Flora of San Diego County, California, USA ROSACEAE Horkelia clevelandii (E. Greene) Rydb. Anza Bench region (extensive upland area north of Palomar Mountains and Warner Valley, and south of the San Jacinto Mountains) northwest of Hot Springs Mountain, along 9S05 ca. 1.5 miles northwest of Indian Flats Campground, Cleveland National Forest; in low-gradient drainage which heads southeast to the San Luis Rey River. Near 33°21’40”N, 116°40’17”W. T9S R3E SW 1/4 NE 1/4 NE 1/4 sec. 28. Elev. 3840 ft. Ancient erosional surface cut into granitic rock. Extensive boulder outcrops and many shallow-gradient drainages present. Dominant scrub vegetation includes Adenostoma sparsifolium, A. fasciculatUm, Ceanothus greggii var. perplexans, Quercus cornelius-mulleri, Yucca whipplei, Y. schidigera, and Arctostaphylos glauca. Meadow-like swale along low-gradient stream with Muhlenbergia rigens, Juncus mexicanus, Sidalcea malvaeflora, and Sisyrinchium bellum. Surrounding drier benches with Quercus agrifolia and Solidago californica. Perennial herb, flowers white. Occasional on benches and in meadow areas. Steve Boyd 8810 17 May 1996 02811612
