Elevation 2957 m. NE facing slope, 25%, with very gravelly soil. Volcanic substrate. Associated with Leucopoa kingii, Erigeron compositus, Artemesia arouscula, Lupmus argenteus. Erysimum asperura. Thlaspi montanum, Senecio integerrimus, Astragalus terminalis, Crepis modocensis, Pensteaon aridus,.Taraxacum officinale, and Heuchera parviflora. Common. Calyx red.
