Loosely cespitose from cormose bases;
scales 2.9-3.2 mm, turning reddish-brown;
anthers 0.7 mm; achenes 2.0 x 1.1 mm wide;
bracts ascending-spreading; ca. 50 clumps;
full sun, dry grassy slope above SE bank of
Snake River, at the mouth of China Gulch,
with Opuntia, Agropyron spicatum,
Panicum, Plantago patagonica,
Amelanchier, Bromus tectorum, Galium
parisiense, Lotus, scattered Celtis, 0.8 miles
NE of Imnaha River mouth, Hells Canyon,
rivermile 192.3 (above confluence with
Columbia River), elev. 965 feet, 45° 49.1' N,
116° 45' W
