Brushy pasture on open W-facing slope, being
invaded by Zanthoxylum americanum, Ulmus
americana, Ostrya virginiana.
Shrub 4 m. tall, 10 cm. in diameter, with
dense crov*n of stiff, thorny branches. Fruit
abundant, bright red, the fleshy yellow, mealy
and insipid. Voucher for wood specimen,
