PLANTS OF ONTARIO, CANADA THUNDER BAY DISTRICT Crataegus succulenta Link var. occidentalis (Britton) Palmer Island in ponds in Castle L Creek, 3 miles southwest of Whitefish Lake, Hardwick Township, On stony silty soil. Found only on this island. Shrubby tree to 5 m. high. Old bark shaggy and curled. Newer growth smooth mottled grey. Spines up to 7 cm. Stamens 10, mauve to pink to lavender. Calyx lobes recurved in anthesis with marginal serrations each tipped with a purplish or brownish gland. (Same as 2218) No. 1766 Coll. C. E.
