feet. Clay-loam soil at margin of stream terrace on low
slopes.
Mesic upland forest in shade, with Ulmus, Acer,
Celtis\ degraded. Understory with Phlox divaricata,
Carex spp., Arisaema triphyllum, Sanicula. Flowers
purple, stem base dull reddish; local, infrequent in
colonies; roots tuberous; fragile (brittle) perennial to
about 0.5 meter tall.
