BUT—-this collection includes many plants
that are intermediate to D. multiplex
YAKIMA 00: in sandy meadowy areas in and
borderihg small (continuous?) stream ca 5
miles s« of summit of Wenas road between
Selah and Ellensburg, In this area it seems
certain that D. burkei and D. multiplex are
growing together and freely hybridizing,
the latter (larger, more flashy-leaved, multi
stemmed, and large and fibrous rooted) grows
mainly among the boulders of the stream it-
self, whereas D* burkei is mainly in the
sandier, more "meadowy11 areas—the two plants
are noticeably different in color(multiplex
more Jpellewish-green); seapsl varying from
lilac to deep blue or purplish, cupped for-
ward more than spreading; stems not flstulose
in most of the Intermediates
