NEW YORK. CLINTON CO.: In second growth mixed
hemlock-hardwood and boreal forest in thin
soil on flat lying limestone, ca 4 km
northwest of Sciota and 35 km northwest of
Plattsburg. Elevation ca 100 m.
Shrubs 1.5-2 m tall. Flowers (4) 5-10 in
loosely erect to spreading or distally
drooping racemes, the axis of the raceme
appearing coarse,but actually soft and weak.
Petals white. Ovary tomentose on the
summit.
Three other spp. (A. bartramiana, A. laevis,
A. canadensis) and some hybrids in the
vicinity.
