Amelanchier laevis Wieg.
NEW YORK. CLINTON CO.: In second growth mixed
hemlock-hardwood and boreal forest in thin
soil on flat-lying limestone, ca 4 km
northwest of Sciota and 35 km northwest of
Plattsburg. Elevation ca 100 m.
Arborescent, crooked-trunked shrubs to 6 m
tall and 1 dm thick. Leaves with a prominent
coppery-red cast. Flowers 5-10 in loosely
erect racemes. Petals white. Ovary top
tomentose.
Three other spp. (A. bartramiana, A. canadensis,
A. spicata) and some hybrids in the vicinity.
