    Apalachicola Lowlands: swampy woods with Taxodium distichum (esp creek banks) and Nyssa aquatica (esp sloughs) abundant on low ground; Quercus laurifolia and Liquidambar abundant on slightly higher ground; other trees Fraxinus caroliniana (low esp with Taxodium. less with Nyssa.), F. pauciflora, Acer rubrum var. trilobum, Pinus taeda*, Q. nigra*, Q. michauxii, Carya illinoinensis, Ulmus americana, Betula nigra; Planera (low), Ampelopsis arborea, Carpinus, Sabal minor, Wisteria ?frutescens, Persea palustris, Morella serifera, (Rhododendron ?viscosum), (Cornus stricta), (Rhus copallina roadside), (Arundinaria tecta); Hymenocallis choctawensis (low), ?Rhynchospora miliacea (mem), Hydrolea quadrivalvis (pond edge), Nuphar advena (pond); * dominant on S side of road.

    Tree, multiple stems, ca. 3 to 7 cm dbh, 5 to 7 m tall; mostly in deeper shade and wetter than pauciflora, but fruit only at edges. Fruiting.
