A brief history of Instituto de Agronômico do Norte or IAN: Organized agricultural research in the Amazon began in 1939 with the creation of Instituto de Agronômico do Norte (IAN). In the 1960s, IAN was renamed Instituto de Pesquisas Agropecuária do Norte (IPEAN), and eventually IPEAN combined with Instituto de Pesquisa e Agricola da Amazônia Ocidental (IPEAAOC) to establish Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) (Mansor de Mattos, Luciano and T. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the Embrapa campus, along Rio Guama. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line beginning at the most western extreme of the Embrapa campus along Rio Guama to the approximate farthest extent of the campus along the river, then halved this distance to approximate the location off the midpoint of Rio Guama within the Embrapa campus. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate midpoint of Rio Guama within the Embrapa campus, along the shore of the river. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Embrapa along Rio Guama, 6247.59 m.), and measurement error (.01 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Coordinates are located nearby Companhia de Saneamento do Pará - COSANPA, a water treatment plant, along Rio Guama.
