  • Description

    Liana. Stipules brown and persistent. Leaf blades folded in at base, ants use cavities to make nests. Fruits obovoid, 2-2.5 cm long x 2-2.5 cm wide, mostly dirty white with green reticulations, appears as if fruit is first green then turns white at maturity, the pericarp 2 mm thick. Fruit with a single seed, the seed surrounded by a sarcotesta similar to that of Inga, after sarcotesta is removed the "seed coat" is green. Embryo white, embedded in green endosperm. The pericarp is rind-like, the seed coat, other than the sarcotesta, is hard and not easily cut with a knife. Many fruits without seeds but these fruits develop to normal size and possess sarcotesta. Hanging from vegetation along edge of river, on left bank just after entry into Nouragues Reserve. [DNA, pickled fruits and seeds].
