Herbs to 3ft tall, common. Growing along the edge of a foot
path in a semi-open & somewhat disturbed suburban forest on
a generally northeast-facing moderate slope, in rocky loam
(Rock outcrop-Hollis complex, 3-35% slopes; loamy, mixed,
active, mesic Lithic Dystrudepts). Growing with Achillea
millefolium, Amphicarpaea bracteata, Carya glabra,
Celastrus orbiculatus, Corylus sp., Desmodium canadense, D.
glutinosum, Dichanthelium latifolium, Dryopteris marginalis,
Eleagnus umbellata, Euonymus alatus, Eurybia macrophylla,
Euthamia graminifolia, Geranium sp., Helianthus divaricatus,
Ostrya virginiana, Plantago major, Quercus rubra, Q.
velutina, Rhamnus cathartica, Rhus typhina, Rosa multiflora,
Schizachyrium scoparium, Smilacina racemosa, Solidago
bicolor, S. caesia, S. nemoralis, Symphyotrichum cordifolium,
(Aster cordifolius), S. lateriflorum (Aster lateriflorus), S.
pilosum (.Aster pilosus), Toxicodendron radicans, Ulmus
americana, Verbena urticaefolia & Vitis sp. Along the edge
