Note: An annotation by (or after) Stephani is included. It synonymizes this taxon with: J. excisa Dicks., J. capitata Hook., J. arenaria Nees, & J. socia Nees. Schuster agrees with all but J. capitata, which he distinguishes as Lophozia capitata (Hook.) Boulay (see Hepat. Anthocerotae N. Amer. 2. 1969.)
