Gaucha. Elevation ca. 872 m, S15° 24’ 33.6”, W045° 58’ 47.5”. Flat
terrain Sandy soils.
OBS:Palm solitary, acaulescent. Tallest specimen to 60-80 cm tall.
LEAVES 5-6 in crown, spirally arranged and spreading. Leaf sheath ca.
3-13 cm long, pseudopetiole (leaf sheath plus petiole) is 8-14 cm long,
with the true petiole 6-14 cm x 6-8 mm wide and 3-4 mm thick with a
fibrous leaf sheath, adaxially channeled and abaxially rounded. Leaf
raehis 40-82 cm long. 12-16 pairs of leaflets which are distributed
regularly along the midrib or in loose clusters of 2-3 at the base. Basal
leaflets 18-31 x 0.1-0.4 cm, middle leaflets 28.5-53 x 1-1.2 cm, and
apical leaflets 29.5-37 x 0.4-0.6 cm. Androgynous INFLORESCENCE
is a spike. Prophyll 9-12 x 1-1.5 cm. Peduncular bract with a total
length of 12-30 cm including a beak of 0-1.5 cm and the expanded or
inflated part of the bract measuring 9.5-16.5 x 1.4-2.5 cm and with a 2-
3.5 cm perimeter and a 1.5 or less mm thickness; peduncle 3-17.5 cm
long, 0.3-0.4 cm thick and no rachis, but the total inflorescence from the
basal flower to the apex measuring 7-11 cm. There is 1 rachilla or
primary branch measuring 7-11 cm long. Fruit is 2-2.5 x 2cm, with a
rough or bumpy epicarp. Female flowers 7x4 mm flower.
