Roadside, disturbed land, compacted clay with some sand. Associates include Avena fatua, Lathyrus hirsutus, Bouteloua rigidiseta, Nassella leucotricha, Ratibida columnifera. Purple flowers. Nearly all plants are past flowering at this time, but still have strongly persistent calyces. Very common here. Perennial. Lat. 30° 10.97' N, Long. 96° 48.01' W. 420 feet elev.
