  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of Assurini Indians along the Rio Xingu; georeferenced to the geographic center of Rio Xingu in Pará, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Xingu. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line starting at the mouth of Rio Xingu, where this river branches off from Rio Amazonas to the approximate end of this river (where Rio Xingu splits and becomes Rio Kuluene and Rio Sete de Setembro in Mato Grosso); halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of Rio Xingu. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates, on the adjacent land to the east of the river. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the midpoint to the farthest extent of Rio Xingu, 636437.0 m.), and measurement error (1 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
