LOCATION: French land parcel No. 437. Large
woodlot ca. 1.3 km west-southwest of the
intersection of Telegraph Avenue (US-24)
and Stewart Road; immediately north of
Ives Drain.
HABITAT: Exceptionally high quality old-growth
woodlot; sandy acidic soil.
ASSOCIATES: Overstory of Acer rubrum and Quercus
velutina; a carpet of Aralia nudicaulis
below; with Vaccinium pallidum, Aronia
prunifolia; Prunus serotina; Quercus
alba; Hamamelis virginiana; Carex
pensylvanica; Uvularia sessilifolia;
Osmorhiza longistylis; Pteridium
aquilinum; Prunus virginiana;
Podophyllum peltatum.
ABUNDANCE: More than 100 scattered throughout the
old-growth portion of the woods.

NOTES: Chestnut was formerly a major component of
this outstanding woods.These collections were
taken from five different trees. All trees
(actually root sprouts) were less than 1 inch
d.b.h and less than 10 ft. tall. Chestnut blight
was observed to have killed a 13 ft. sprout.
