    Swampy lowlands along Hudson River; Fraxinus nigra infrequent in woods dominated by F. pennsylvanica, between younger woods at slightly higher level and marshy scrub at lower level; other woodies, Prunus virginiana, Rosa multiflora, Alnus ?serrulata; on ground, Onoclea, Amphicarpaea, Iris, Carex (narrow-leaved tussocks).

    Tree ca 2 dm dbh, 15 m tall; <90% dieback. No fruit.
