Swale among hills east of Blackstone River (520 m to W); Fraxinus nigra and F. americana rare in woods with much Tsuga, Betula alleghaniensis, Acer rubrum, locally Thuja; shrubs, Lindera, Clethra alnifolia; on ground, Osmunda cinnamomea, Thelypteris noveboracensis, Arisaema triphyllum, Aralia nudicaulis, Cornus canadensis, Maianthemum canadense, Onoclea, Viola cucullata, Chrysosplenium, Caltha, Chelone ?obliqua.

Tree 10 cm dbh, 10 m tall; <90% dieback. No fruit.
