    Rocky river bank, high terrace with diverse shrubby woods between open bank and deeper riparian woods; frequent Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Nyssa, Robinia, Populus deltoides, Acer saccharinum; shrub locally dominated by Alnus ?serrulata.

    Tree ca 5-20 cm dbh, 5-10 m tall; no dieback; collected with other trees within 50 m that vary in pubescence (2016.08-58A, B, C, D). No fruit Perhaps intermediate?.
