Andres Ibanez, Santa Cruz. Cultivated ornamentals in the city. 17°47TS, 63°12'W alt. 420 m. Large tree along Avenida Pirai, between Anil- los 2 and 3, probably left over from when area still rural. Trunk 1 m. in diameter at base, then swollen, 15 m. tall, unbranched except at top, with broad-based spines. Began blooming late March 1987, still with a few pink flowers by early July, then loosing leaves and now al- most completely leafless. Green fruits only. Coll.: M. Nee 35665 19 Aug. 1987
