27.5”. Flat terrain. Sandy soils.
This is the voucher for MBC accessions 20140090 to 20140099.
OBSrPalm solitary- or clustering with a short, often reclined trunk. Older
specimens with trunks to 50-80 cm x 15 cm (including persistent leaf
bases). Tallest specimen to 2 m tall. LEAVES 5-8 in crown, spirally
arranged and spreading. Leaf sheath ca. 12-25 cm long, pseudopetiole
(leaf sheath plus petiole) is 15-40 cm long, with the true petiole 10-25
cm x 8.5-18 mm wide and 4-6 mm thick with a fibrous leaf sheath,
adaxially channeled and abaxially rounded. Leaf rachis 50-71 cm long.
52-59 pairs of leaflets which are distributed regularly along the midrib
or in loose clusters of 2-3 at the base. Basal leaflets 14-23 x 0.2-0.5 cm,
middle leaflets 17-22 x 1.4-1.7 cm, and apical leaflets 7-9.5 x 0.2-0.4
cm. Androgynous INFLORESCENCE is branched to one order.
Prophyll 19 x 2.7-3 cm. Peduncular bract with a total length of 35-48
cm including a beak of 0-1 ( 3) cm and the expanded or inflated part of
the bract measuring 20-26 cm long x 4.5-7 cm and with a 6-7.5 cm
perimeter and a 2-3 mm thickness; peduncle 12-24 cm long, 1-1.1 cm
thick and rachis 7-9.5, but the total inflorescence from the lowest branch
or rachilla to the apex measuring 15-21.5 cm. There are 9-12 rachillae
or primary branches measuring 6-11 cm long at the apex and 11.5-15.5
cm at the base. Fruit is 1.7-2.6 x 1.5-2.5 cm, fruit usually longer than
wide, but occasionally wider than long.
