Wooded area, moist soil with pines and low lying bushes.
Vaccinium berries are eaten raw and can be used to make
jellies, syrups, and other desserts. Traditionally these plants
were used to treat heart trouble, urinary tract infections,
hypoglycemia, and arthritis. Compounds in Vaccinium have
been found to significantly affect blood sugar and insulin
levels in laboratory settings and may be useful in controlling
diabetes.
