PLANTS OF COSTA RICA < Me lasto mataceae> Blakea nendul¡flora Almeda det. D. S. Penneys, 23 Aug. 2005 Prov. Heredia: Parque Nacional Braulio Carillo, Sector Volcan Barva. Along path to Laguna Barva. Elev. 2650m. Terrestrial shrub to ca. 3m. Youngest buds covered in dense, brown indûment. As peduncles elongate, the buds become pendant. Flowers and fruit on sinuous, erect peduncles. Peduncles in flower ca. half the length of fruiting peduncles, probably to make access easier for rodents and birds in turn, the floral bracts also nearly doubling in size in fruit. Floral bracts and corolla green. Mature fruit red, large, the very juicy and pulpy matrix with relatively few, red seeds. Frequent. Lat. 10 07.42N Long. 84 07.04W Datum: WGS 84. coll. Darin S.
