elliottii swamp with Magnolia virginiana,
Nyssa biflora, Gordonia lasianthus, Persea
palustris, Lyonia lucida, Vaccinium fuscatum,
and Ilex myrtifolia; common shrubs (but only
seen in this one swamp) or small trees to i
m, tall; flowers yellow and visited by various
flies; population composed of + equal numbers
of staminate and carpellate plants; staminate
fls, + twice as large as carpellate fls,; nectar
prodttced in carpellate fls. by staminodia, and
in staminate fls. by stalked glands on inner
whorl of stamens.
