    Medium sized deciduous tree to 25m. Leaves alternate, ovate to 10cm long with finely serrate margins. Male catkins pendulous while female catkins erect. Younger twigs smooth with distinct horizontal lenticels. Twigs, when scraped, smell of wintergreen. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
