woody climber; main stem 3.5 cm diameter, outer bark scaly, pale brown,
lenticellate, the lenticels large and knobby; stem radial, outer wood
whitish, heartwood yellow brown, composed of large pores; twigs terete
and glabrate, pale brown, occasionally fractiflex; leaves paired,
approximated to one side, coriaceous or slightly fleshy, glabrous, glossy
dark green and white punctulate above x abaxially yellow-green, lamina
elliptic-lanceolate (large blade) to ovate-suborbicular (small blade); fruits
not seen; inflorescence axillary, in congested fascicles on umbonate
knobs; pedicels slender, purple, glabrous, passing insensibly to the calyx;
calyx tube cupular, purple and verruculose, glabrous, accrescent, margin
truncate; corolla deeply 5-fid, lobes ovate-lanceolate, white, apices acute
and adaxially beaked, the beak comose; outer petal surfaces puberulent,
inside with glandular hairs; androecium of 5 stamens, free, approximate
and coherent about the style, purple, epipetalous below the corolline
sinuses, filaments short, anthers 2-thecate, ?biporicidai, erect, basifixed;
gynoecium superior, ovary yellow, lustrous, glabrous, globose, entire,
crowned by the cylindrical style; style purple and glabrous, terminating in a
green slightly widened stigma; immature berry subglobose and glabrous,
epicarp green,
