POLYGALACEAE
Herbs to 8in tall, occasional, flowers bracts purple-pink,
becoming white. In a meadow-like area and forest edge
along the S. side of a drainage ditch on a north-facing
slope, in rocky silt/clay-loam over shale (Allis silt loam,
3-8% slopes; fine, illitic, acid, mesic Typic
Endoaquepts). Growing with Acer rubrum,
Anthoxanthum odoratum, Betula lenta (?), Carex
swanii, Carya ovata, Cladonia cristatella, Cladonia
spp., Danthonia compressa, Daucus carota,
Diphasiastrum complanatum, Festuca ovina,
Hypochaeris radicata, Lobelia infiala, Melilotus alba,
Plantago lanceolata, Quercus palustris, Q. rubra,
Rubus alleghaniensis, Solidago canadensis, Solidago
rugosa, Spiranthes cemuua, Tsuga canadensis &
Veronica officinalis. Just W. of the end of Downs
Drive, about 0.35mi W. of the intersection with Peach
