Along the open upland border of a shallow, sandy cove; growing with Eupatorium hyssopifolium, Panicum virgatum, Euthamia caroliniana, Solidago odora, Conyza canadensis, Artemesia vulgaris, Morella caroliniensis, Ilex glabra, Vaccinium corymbosum, and Clethra alnifolia.
