Sungai Merah; 1 km to W of camp along ridge, old Gaharu trail, and surrounding environs. Lat.: 0 0 33 ' 40 * S Long.: 112 0 37 ' 32.7 " E Habitat Alt 700 m Hill'Dipterocarp forest, associates include: Shorea, Dipterocarpus, Durio, Castanopsis. Growing on side of ridge, small open gap. Morphology: Tree 15 m tall, 20 cm dbh. Stilt roots slender and spreading, 60 cm high. Outer bark dark reddish-brown, rugose. Inner bark deep salmon. Wood sweet aroma. Leaves fleshy, stiff, glaucous beneath, mid-rib raised. Fruit dull pale green, waxy. Seldom.
